Lime Cordiale are basically a band that loves music, all sorts of music. Oli and Louis Leimbach decided some time ago that they would create their own world through tunes full of good vibes. From Sydney, Australia, they are going to bring their songs to the old continent for the first time. Thanks to thousands of petitions from anonymous people that logged into cooncert.com to ask them to come all the way from Australia. They will perform in Madrid (23rd July) and Barcelona (24th July) and we are very glad to have the opportunity to inquiry them about their project.
LBM- First of all, just to break the ice: What are the stereotypes about Spain that you are eager to proof right/wrong?
LC – We’re all excited to try an array of Tapas and other Spanish tasty goods. We’re not scared to open our bellies and undo the buttons on our pants when it comes to good food. Hopefully head back to Australia extremely overweight.
LBM- Is Sydney really far from most of the places or is it just a few (Lime Cordiale´s) songs away? Subquestion: How does an Aussie band make it to survive in this crazy world?
LC –We’ve never been to Spain or toured through Europe playing music. It’s definitely always been a dream to travel with music and we’re all a bit shocked that it’s finally happening. We really want to make this a yearly trip so we’re planting the seed on this trip. It’s super far away but the internet makes it feel a lot closer! We’ve had people asking for us to come to Europe for ages and now we’re finally here.
LBM – Permanent Vacation allowed you to show your talents and it did very well, now as your second album is nearly coming out… Is it going to be better, different and more successful?
LC- Permanent Vacation was such a fun and good learning process for us. We met our producer Dave Hammer at the start of it and fell in love. Dave worked on the new one so it was all really fluid from the start. We’ve released the songs “Dirt Cheap,” “Money” and “Inappropriate Behaviour” already so I think they set the sound. There’s definitely still some weirder songs to come but we’re all really proud with it. Our second child.
LBM- We’ve heard that part of your summer tour in Europe is provided by cooncert.com, thanks to some brave audience that voted for you to come here: Do you think this tool or other similar to this where the audience claims what to bring to their cities is the future of touring?
LC- It’s a long way from home for us so hearing of anyone wanting to make the tip over is always a treat. cooncert.com obviously sounds like a great way of discovering new artists
LBM – How does Lime Cordiale see things up in the air?
LC- We’re just trying to play as many shows as possible. We have nearly 30 in Europe and when we get home we have another 30 or so before the end of the year. I think that’s the best thing to do as a band. Just play play play play play.
LBM – Do you feel that you have to mix all your favourite styles to create your own? Subquestion: Do you have words to define what you do?
LC – Lime definitely does a lot of genre bashing and mixes up the influences. If you steal your favourite elements of all your favourite types of music, you find your own sound. You might like the drums in a certain hip-hop song, the horns from an old soul song, the synths from Tame Impala (as everyone does) and you’ve got you’re own sound!
LBM- Listening to your published material we think “contemporary” is an adjective that comes easily to our minds. It evokes good vibrations instantly. Can we also expect that from your live performances?
LC- Our live set is quite different from our recordings. We like to extend our set, dance, climb things and have a party. We don’t like to have a divide between the audience and the performers. Maybe that’s why people love to jump on stage a lot. It’s all one big party.
LBM- To finish with this interview, we would like to give us some “pick one” pairs of words to create your profile (and sense of humour) THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
– money or time – Time

– Coca cola or Pepsi – Neither
