The Findlay Sisters decided years ago that they couldn’t live without rock. From rural Australia they saw the world in their hands when they got together as a band. Far from Earth is their latest album and it’s going to be the best excuse to have them in Spain for the first time. They agreed on answering some of our finest questions right before they come to play Tomavistas Festival in Madrid. Here they are, Stonefield.
LBM: From Australia to the world… What do you count, kilometres or concerts?
Stonefield: Ha! Never had that question before.. we have certainly done a hell of a lot of kms in our time, but the main focus is certainly the shows.. we actually don’t know exactly how many concerts we have done in our time, but it would be a lot.. particularly in the last couple of years.
LBM: Is “Far from Earth” born from the unknown?
Stonefield:The record has a large focus on outta space and feeling like a tiny speck in the universe. In a way, all of our records are born from the unknown.. it always baffles us that songs just seem to come into the world and you don’t even really know where they came from.
LBM: When you are deep into pshychedelia, Is it sometimes difficult to keep a clear goal?
Stonefield:No, not at all. We are pretty level headed gals. Our main goal for our music is to create our music freely and to be able to make a living from it, whilst touring the world, meeting lots of new people and seeing some amazing places.
LBM: What is the most amazing thing music has given to you?
Stonefield:Confidence. We grew up in the country and were always very shy, quiet and perhaps even a little sheltered. Our band has opened our minds to the world and all the crazy things in it. We can speak our mind, do things how we want to do it and not be afraid of that. We are so grateful to have these experiences and worldy knowledge that perhaps we wouldn’t have had without our music.
LBM: Are you tired of answering gender questions? Do you consider that music understands everyone?
Stonefield:Yes and no. It’s such an important topic, so we do want to talk about it, it’s just that we are sick of it having to be a question in the first place. It’s 2019.. it’s just ridiculous that this is still an issue.. in saying that, a lot has changed from when we first started playing years ago. It’s nice to see that there is a large shift, particularly at the moment.
Our band has opened our minds to the world and all the crazy things in it.

LBM: Is music better in family? What do you miss the most when touring?
Stonefield: Everything has its pros and cons, but for us we would say it’s a huge advantage. The thing you miss most when touring is home, but home for us is wherever your family are.. there’s just a few people missing!
LBM: Finish this sentence… “I’m not leaving Spain without…”
Stonefield: Having indulged in a siesta.
LBM: What do you expect from your live audience as something essential for you?
Stonefield: For them to just get in the moment and zone out with us.
