Next September 27th Crocodiles will be joining local band Rayo in Madrid to perform at Independance Live under the quality canvas of Tomavistas Ciudad. The American duo will bring their brand new album called Love is Here, a collection of wild songs that speak for themselves as true examples of the wide variety of influences the band has. Just a couple of weeks before arriving to Spain, they let us see some of the aspects behind this new work in this intense interview.
LBM- Do you feel that seven albums is a good territory for a couple of crocs?
C- We are proud that we have lasted this long, a lot of bands don’t even make it to a second album.
LBM- What are the three words that can best describe your new material? subquestion Do you think there’s still space for you to grow?
C- There is always room to grow and change. Over the course of 7 albums we have made all sorts of music; this is why no one can pin us down or put us into any musical ghetto. We have been called punk, shoegaze, psychedelic, power pop, 60s, 80s etc but we are none of these. Or are we all of these? We will continue to make whatever kinds of records we want.
LBM- Can we wait until tomorrow in this world we’re living in now?
C- This is somewhat the point of the song if you read the lyrics: «If it seems bad today wait until tomorrow». In other words, it’s going to get worse.
LBM- What do you know about the Spanish audience? Do you feel some kind of connection between your musically urgent proposal and us?
C- People are people, we feel the same connection with the Spanish that we feel with people everywhere. We’ve played Spain many times over the years and are happy to be going back and are excited to spend time with our Spanish friends.
LBM- In a world full of labels do you believe putting “names” on your own music help people come closer to you or is it just a nonsense because it is not working any more?
C- It’s nonsense. It doesn’t matter. We’ve never cared to part of any clubs or gangs or teams.
LBM- To finish with this interview, we would like to thank you very much for your time and we leave you here with one last question: Should hearts be the only guns allowed in this planet?
C- That would be a beautiful solution but unfortunately the world doesn’t have a rewind button. Guns are here to stay and humans will always find new ways to be violent with one another.
